A new analysis of Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll data finds a marked increase in the share of registered voters identifying themselves as liberals, and an even bigger drop in the share saying they are conservatives.
The ideas behind the conservative dogma of “smaller government” and “fiscal discipline” and “family values” has masqueraded as a legitimate philosophy for so-called “conservatives” for almost a half century, and recent data shows the rising generation is rejecting the intellectual folly. An idea is not the same as a principle, a slogan is not that same as a strategy, and a political platform is not the same as a coherent intellectual world view. As the next generation of conservatives cling to the same formula of intellectual failure (the lack of a defining set of principles) support of socialism and liberalism is growing. Those who truly love liberty must move beyond the bromides and the hyperbole of modern politics. A real understanding of principles and a defense of freedom, prosperity and peace – based upon a fully informed intellectual and morally consistent world-view is essential to overcome the momentous tide of liberal do-gooders and every more bold socialists working to eradicate the principles of America’s founding. The badge of “conservative” is no longer sustainable by those who love liberty – it is time to wake up, and turn your brain on. We can win in the battle for freedom, but only with our minds fully engaged.
